Donna Lou Sonnett restored the derelict "Pigeon Palace", as the Cupola House was previously known, over a period of 4 years working with (and beside) numerous carpenters and contractors. The finished product, now a stately Greek Revival gem, opened it's doors in 1995 and has gained accolades and fans ever since. The most frequent compliment is how every little detail is perfect and how well-equipped and comfortable the apartments are - "like home only better" as one guest said.
Donna, who has a degree in studio art, calls the house her "on-going art project", referring to the period stenciling and antiquated finishes on the furniture, and the simple elegance of the apartments.
Donna has numerous interests that enhance everyone's stay. She has hiked, biked, fished, and boated throughout the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain region - held a DEC outdoor guides license for several years (now retired) and loves to tell visitors about local swimming holes, remote cross-country ski trails and hidden attractions that only a seasoned resident would know.
Guests who are musical are encouraged to bring along their fiddles, banjos or guitars for the occasional musical get-together with “The Boquet River String Band”, Donna's band, who sometimes play on the back porch.
